This 6 inch knife contains a steel saw tooth blade. There is a bottle opener on the back edge and it can be used as a signal mirror. It has a high impact ABS hollow handle and contains the following essential items: Matches with striking pad, wire ring saw, fish hooks and leads, nylon line and hooks for fishing. The screw on cap is watertight and has a liquid filled compass. It is placed nicely in a sheath with a sharpening stone.

For the price, I was a little nervous this knife would turn out to be the size of an ink pen or fall apart as it came out of the sheath; neither was true. The 6 inch blade appears sturdy . A hex nut inside the handle can be used to tighten the blade if it becomes loose. The black plastic handle is firm and doesn't cave when you squeeze it. If you're planning to be lost in the woods for a week, obviously it would be preferable to have a more sophisticated (and expensive) survival knife with you. But this basic survival knife with compass and fishing kit is certainly better than having no knife at all; and at the cost you can afford to keep one in multiple locations. It is what it is for the price.

This is a very good knife. Its actually fairly light weight. The knife is very, very balanced when the compass part is screwed in. It weighs about a pound and a quarter, and will not weigh you down while backpacking. The survival kit in the handle is fairly useful and I replaced the matches it came with with waterproof matches, added a needle, and three or so sinkers. There is a small amount of room behind the pocket in the sheath for the sharpening stone, and I put a flint and little metal piece (so as not to ruin the knife's finish) in behind it. I also managed to fit 20 or so iodine pills in a separate bag in the handle. The knife comes sharp, but not razor sharp, and i spent a fair amount of time sharpening it before taking it anywhere. The sheath is nice, with a plastic lining to keep the knife from cutting through the fabric. The sharpening stone is very small and pretty low quality, and is hard to sharpen the knife with, but in a survival situation its far better than nothing. If you can find one the right size, I'd suggest replacing it with something higher quality. Although you cant really tell from the picture, the knife has a rather large serrated edge, which works like its supposed to. Compared to a similar knife, the master jack assault knife (also available on amazon), this knife feels much sturdier, it doesn't shake like a part is coming loose when you use it. It weighs far less than the jack knife, and the compass actually works. All in all, a great, reliable knife for very little.
